Deb Ferrara - Songwriter |
![]() |
Raised on music, Deb Ferrara entered the studio before she could crawl and walked out a child star at the age of 5. The success of her first single, Christmas Time Is Near, led to television and radio appearances, and news items in major industry magazines. This early start prefaced a continuous involvement in music. By the age of 18, Deb was in the studio with her own band, recording and co-producing a five-song EP of her own original pop/rock material. The self released record, Go Away, attracted interest from Chrysalis Records, and garnered two songwriting awards from Billboard.
It didn't take long for Deb to realize that her passion, creativity and expertise naturally fell in the songwriting end of music. She focused on writing for other artists and for film, TV and advertising... playing, producing and recording demos in her home studio. A seven-song sampler, co-produced by New Jersey's Russ Bonagura, was put together to shop to the industry. The songs were recorded and mastered at Blue Moon Studios. The impressive demo led to an exclusive contract with NYC attorney, Ron Bienstock in 2001. During that same year, DSM Producers offered a publishing contract on all seven songs with one track being licensed for the educational video The ONE in EveryONE. More Magazine included Ferrara in an interview and photo shoot for their November issue. In 2002 Deb teamed up with LA producer, Dan Marfisi (POE, Harry Dean Stanton, Mindi Abair [Backstreet Boys/Mandy Moore]), to record a follow-up demo. They again teamed up in 2003 to record another collection of songs. The newest "Songbook" features six unforgettable, pop and rock songs - drenched in catchy melodies and big hook choruses. The musicianship is fresh and contemporary, and the vocals are handled by some of LA's finest indie artists. "Songbook" is getting rave reviews, industry interest and airplay on college radio. Five Ferrara songs (2 from the newest "Songbook") were licensed for inclusion on Canadian artist Vicky Rose's CD, which is tentatively slated for a late spring 2004 release. Deb was a writer in the spotlight at Indie-Connections in January 2003, and has had top ten songs in several categories at Broadjam in 2002 and 2003. In addition, she has been featured at several online e-zines - including an interview (March 2003) at ENZM.com. Deb is the recipient of a 2003 ASCAP Pop Award - and was selected to perform at the 49th Songwriters Hall of Fame Showcase at the Cutting Room in NYC on March 25, 2004. She is also the host and coordinator of NJ Songwriters In The Round, a monthly songwriter showcase located in the Northern NJ area. Under the NJ Songwriters umbrella, Deb organizes Songs For The Cause, the yearly benefit concert for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. In addition, this summer Deb is one of the hosts for the Chick Singer Night Summer Concert Series at the Hyatt in Jersey City. The series runs every Thursday from Memorial Day through Labor Day. She will continue on as Jersey's CSN Director in the fall. Deb is a member of ASCAP, The National Academy of Popular Music - she is on the Board of Directors for Women In Music, and is a voting member of the Recording Academy. She is the President of More Good Music, which has been in her family and an active ASCAP publishing company since 1968. Ferrara works very well in write-to-suit situations, and has worked with a variety of songwriting partners and collaborators. Her style has remained primarily in the hook oriented pop/rock genre, however her catalog also has selections in the dance, adult contemporary, country, alternative, Latin/pop and children's categories. A prolific and enthusiastic writer, Deb is always looking for her next opportunity, and is always writing her next hit song. She is presently working on a full length studio album of her own material which will be released August 10, 2004.
